Feedback from one typical school:

Sally Blackledge, P6 Class Teacher, Gilcomstoun Primary School (Aberdeen)

‘Primary 6 reflects the population of the school. There are 25 in the class, 12 girls and 13 boys. There are four pupils for whom English is an additional language, and there are two boys who have Special Educational Needs. In addition, a number of children present difficult and challenging behaviours. In the class there are 14 children who live with a single parent or in a reconstituted family group, with a step-parent.

‘The outcome of the work is a film that the children are extremely proud of. Each element of the project was worthwhile in its own right, but I am convinced that the creative buzz generated by the animation process kept the interest going and served to enhance learning.

‘In their time with us [the animators] worked very hard indeed. They were excellent with the children, and developed a very happy and safe working atmosphere. The success of the project is due in large part to their professionalism and enthusiasm.

‘They have been engaged in an intensive creative process, which has been an enriching experience. It has given them a tangible end product and has enhanced their self-esteem. From my point of view as a teacher, all the above applies with the added bonus that I have delivered aspects of the 5-14 Curriculum – Environmental Studies, Language and Expressive Arts – in a positive and meaningful way.’
