Scottish writer Stewart Conn conjures up a rich diversity of people and places, from the Glasgow and Ayrshire of his boyhood, to glimpses of Venice, Gaudí’s Barcelona and a troupe of actors joyously rehearsing in the African bush; from poignant exchanges of letters, to memories of George Mackay Brown and Iain Crichton Smith.
Distances reflects the author’s wide interests and love for people, and is written in an unassuming, unpretentious and easily accessible style.
Whether exploring cities or identities, journeying in the present or into the past, Conn’s clear eye and insight add vibrancy to this miscellany of prose pieces and the poems interspersing them.
