Book + CD pack!
Once upon a time... How many children love to hear these words? In this, the first of the Fairytale Company's "Classics" books, three well-loved Hans Christian Andersen fairytales are re-told: Jack the Dullard, The Tinderbox and The Swineherd.
Beautifully presented in a full colour, hardback book, the stories will captive any child and appeal to all ages.
The 3 stories have been dramatised onto a CD and each performance is recorded by a full cast with music and sound effects. (The book contains the full, easy to read script for each play.)
The Swineherd...
This is the story of a prince who disguised himself as a swineherd so that he could meet the great Emperor's daughter, the princess. But is there a happy-ever-after ending? You will have to read the story to find out!
Jack the Dullard
Once upon a time a beautiful and intelligent princess set a competition to find her husband. Now Jack, our hero, was not as educated as his two brothers, he decided to enter the competition anyway. So he set out on a journey that would be full of adventures. Did he reach the palace? Did he win the competition? Did he marry the princess? Read the book!
The Tinderbox
On the long way home from war, a soldier meets an old witch who offers him great wealth. In return, he has to climb deep down inside a hollow tree where he tests his courage by taking an old tinderbox from three HUGE dogs. Later, he learns of a princess who is locked in a tower. Dogs, tinderbox, princess and the soldier then become involved in another adventure with surprising results!
These stories, presented on book and CD, will provide great entertainment for children at home or on the move.
Children love to listen to the CD and follow the stories in the book, looking at the pictures or reading the script themselves.
3 to 5 years old...
The script acts as a page turning guide for an assisting adult. Great at bedtime or while travelling.
5 to 7 years old...
As their reading skills develop it plays a valuable role in teaching new words, pronunciation and sentence structure. Adults may need to assist children learning new words.
6 to 10 years old...
Children enjoy interacting with the stories in the book. They can read aloud with the text and use it to perform the plays.
Visually impaired children
Catering for visually impaired and blind children has been an important consideration in the development of this book and CD package. There are no frustrating page turning beeps on the CD. The text is large, the images have strong outlines and the script can be downloaded and printed in larger text or even Braille. Blind children can enjoy the CD on its own.
"The book is visually appealing and the text is clearly presented and in a large font size. The ability to download scripts from the company website is very helpful and will enable readers to enlarge and print to suit. I think it's a very appealing package."
Joanna Shaw, Editor of the Royal National Institute of the Blind’s Visibility magazine
Our audio book as a reading aid
The scripts for the dramatised fairy tales are included, word for word, in the book. This makes Classics One a great reading aid. Children can follow the script, see the words written down, and they enjoy acting out the plays too. To aid these home performances, the scripts are available to download for customers.
"The children got a lot of enjoyment from the story and asked to hear it again as soon as I had finished. The children were very enthusiastic about it."
Caroline, the nursery nurse in charge of reading at Mackin Childcare Nursery
